The Royal Navy has confirmed that the Type 23 frigate HMS Lancaster has completed undergoing an overhaul begun in 2017.
The vessel has received upgrades including a new 3D radar, an improved navigational radar, and a Sea Ceptor missile system replacing the now-retired Seawolf system for defence against air attack.
In addition, the hull has been strengthened with 200 new steel inserts fitted to reinforce Lancaster in heavy seas.
The frigate is scheduled to get its full crew complement in August to prepare for its return to its homeport of Portsmouth by the end of the year.
Sea trials of the overhauled Lancaster are set to commence in early 2020.
