German media reports that the country's government has given official approval for the sale of three MEKO A200 frigates to Egypt.

The 121-metre vessels will each be crewed by 120 personnel and will be capable of anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-air warfare missions. Secondary missions will include search and rescue (SAR) and humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).

Local defence firm ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will be the main contractor for the sale of the frigates.
