Ex-South Korean corvette commissioned into Colombian Navy

A warship formerly operated by the South Korean Navy was commissioned into service with the Colombian Navy in a ceremony on Wednesday, January 6.

The 88-metre, 950-tonne ex-ROKS Iksan was built in 1987 as a Pohang-class corvette and was retired by South Korea in 2018. It was renamed ARC Almirante Tono following its transfer to Colombia in 2020.

The corvette will be used for anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and anti-air warfare. Armament includes two 76-millimetre naval guns, two 40-millimetre cannons, anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, surface-to-air missiles, and an assortment of 7.62-millimetre and 12.7-millimetre machine guns.
