Turkey's Defence Industry Directorate (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı; SSB) launched a new test and evaluation ship for the country's navy at Istanbul Naval Shipyard on Saturday, February 9.

The vessel's name, TCG Ufuk ("Horizon"), was revealed earlier on the same day.

The 2,400-tonne, 99.5- by 14.4-metre vessel uses the same hull as those of the country's Ada-class corvettes but will be unarmed.

Ufuk, which is scheduled to be delivered in July 2020, will have a secondary intelligence-gathering role.
