Saab launches Sweden’s newest naval surveillance ship
Published on

A new signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel being built for the Swedish Royal Navy has been launched in Gdynia, Poland.

The future HSwMS Artemis is currently under construction at the facilities of Nauta Shipyard, a subcontractor of Saab Kockums, and is slated to be commissioned in 2020.

It will replace the SIGINT ship HSwMS Orion, which has been in service since 1984.

Most of the details of Artemis' onboard surveillance equipment remain classified. However, an official of the Swedish Defence Material Administration has confirmed that the new SIGINT ship will offer "a great technical edge" as well as improved living and working conditions compared to Orion.
