United Shipbuilding Corporation's Zvezdochka Shipyard has begun sea trials of Akademik Alexandrov ("Professor Alexandrov"), the first oceanographic research vessel under Project 20183.

The vessel took to the water on Saturday, December 15, to embark on a sea trial period that will last 10 days. In the first quarter of 2019, it will be tested for seaworthiness in ice conditions in the White Sea.

Akademik Alexandrov will be delivered to the Russian Navy in the third quarter of 2019. It will also be used for search and rescue (SAR) and transport of personnel and equipment.
