The Royal Danish Navy recently held a ceremony to officially reclassify two of its existing fleet support vessels as frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare (ASW).

The Absalon-class support ships HDMS Absalon (pictured) and HDMS Esbern Snare will soon begin undergoing conversion work that will include the installation of an advanced towed sonar and other ASW weapons and equipment.

The two sisters are also currently the largest ships in service with the Royal Danish Navy, measuring 137 by 19 metres and displacing approximately 6,300 tonnes.
