Germany's Federal Ministry of Defence has confirmed that two German Navy ships have departed Europe on a planned deployment to the Indo-Pacific region.

The deployed vessels are the frigate Baden-Württemberg and the supply ship Frankfurt am Main (pictured). The two vessels recently sailed out of Rota, Spain, and Wilhelmshaven, respectively, and are en route to the port of Halifax in Canada.

Frankfurt am Main also has an embarked helicopter detachment, a unit of German Navy Seebataillon naval infantry, and a dental team.

From May to December 2024, the two ships will sail in the sea area between the Horn of Africa, Australia, and Japan.

The port visits are being carried out with the aim of fulfilling the objectives of the Indo-Pacific Guidelines. Published by the German government in September 2020, the guidelines seek to intensify international cooperation, support partners on the ground, and uphold the rules-based international order.
