Finnish Defence Forces orders four service boats from local builder

The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command has awarded local boatbuilder Kewatec AluBoat a contract for the construction of four service boats in a series plus options for another five boats.

The vessels will be used by the Finnish Navy to transport troops and equipment in shallow waters in the Finnish archipelago.

Each boat will have a length of 19.2 metres, two Scania DI13 559kW engines, Kongsberg waterjets, and a tire crane. Loading and unloading of cargo will be via a bow ramp.

The newbuilding contract, which also covers the five optional boats, is valued at approximately €12.8 million (US$15 million).

Delivery of the vessels will take place during the 2022-2024 timeframe.
