British design firms Babcock and BMT have signed a cooperation agreement to design, build, construct and support future Royal Navy ships for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

BMT said the initial focus would be the Type31e program to, "jointly explore their available designs to determine the best possible option that meets the cost, capability, and delivery requirements of the Royal Navy".

Babcock has unveiled its "Arrowhead" design for the Type 31 frigate. It is a 120-metre-long, general-purpose frigate Babcock believes it can build under the £250 million (US$328 million) price limit.
