An oil/chemical tanker operated by Stena subsidiary Concordia Maritime was the target of a recent failed attack by pirates in the waters off Cameroon.

The company confirmed that the Bermuda-flagged Stena Important was anchored at Cameroon's Douala Anchorare when it was approached by a speedboat carrying eight armed men on Thursday, March 19.

The officer of the watch then raised the alarm for the crew to report to their muster stations as the onboard security team mobilised to repel the unauthorised boarding. The perpetrators reportedly gave up and left after two failed attempts to board the tanker using a ladder.

No injuries have been reported among the crew and the security team.

Concordia Maritime said that local authorities have been notified about the incident.
