The Narragansett Fire Department of Rhode Island has christened a 31-foot (9.4-metre) rescue boat scheduled to enter service later this month.

Officially named Marine 2, the vessel will be alternatively known as Maia Stanton in honour of a 14-year-old girl who died in a snorkeling accident in the waters off Narragansett in 2015.

The vessel is designed to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operations even in incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) materials.
