UK-based global non-profit the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) has released its first ever Rescue Boat Service Implementation Guide.

Authored by David Whiddon, an instructor with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the comprehensive guide is designed to equip organisations with the essential tools and knowledge to develop a rescue boat search and rescue service.

This resource has been designed as a guidance document and can be adapted to suit the local environment and context of each organisation.

The guide provides step-by-step advice that can be tailored to fit the unique challenges and needs of operators, whether starting a rescue boat service or enhancing an existing fleet. It includes information on the process of service implementation, researching the need for a rescue boat service, information on carrying out risk assessments, stakeholder engagement, people, equipment, and facilities.

The resource has various templates that can be adapted to use in different locations.

This guide will be reviewed every three years. Any comments, feedback, or requests for support with the use of these resources can be directed to the IMRF via info@imrf.org.uk.

The guide can be downloaded via this link.
