Habbeke Shipyard in the Netherlands has been selected for the construction of two high-speed search and rescue (SAR) boats in a series.

The aluminium-hulled boats will be operated by the newly created, government-run SAR organisations on the islands of Saba and Sint Eustatius in the Dutch Caribbean.

Each boat will have an LOA of 9.15 metres, a beam of 3.3 metres, a draught of only 0.7 metre, a displacement of 4.2 tonnes, a maximum speed of 34 knots, and seating for four crewmembers and up to 20 rescued survivors.

The boats will each be outfitted with two Volvo D4-270 engines, Hamilton HJ 241 waterjets, and suspension seats from Ullman. Habbeke Shipyard will meanwhile provide the IWCS communication system on each boat.

At full operating power, the boats can achieve a maximum endurance of 3.5 hours.
