The Canadian Government has awarded a CA$5.3 million (US$4.1 million) contract to Milestone Environmental Contracting to remove hazardous chemicals in sediments in Victoria's Middle Harbour sea bed.
The work, which involves the dredging of 1,200 cubic metres of contaminated sediment from the sea bed near the Laurel Point Park and transporting the sediment by barge to an approved facility for treatment and disposal, will begin this month.
The harbour bed will be backfilled with clean material.
The project, which will be monitored by Transport Canada, is expected to be completed by January.
