Poland's Remontowa Shipbuilding has begun conducting sea trials of a new multi-purpose research vessel for the Maritime Office in Gdynia.
The four-day sea trials of Zodiak II will include a bollard pull test. Following the trials, which are expected to be completed by mid-July, the vessel will be handed over to its new owners.
The 60- by 13-metre Zodiak II is the first in a series of two vessels designed to perform hydrographic research, buoy maintenance, oil spill response, towing, icebreaking, search and rescue (SAR), and firefighting. A diesel-electric propulsion system will enable it to sail at speeds of up to 13 knots.
Design work on the vessel was carried out by Remontowa affiliate company Remontowa Marine Design and Consulting.
