Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) recently commissioned three ASD harbour tugs into service for its operations at the Port of Tema.
The newbuilds have been named Ben Owusu-Mensah, Josephine Asante, and Commander K.T. Dovlo after former GPHA executives. All three vessels belong to the same series of 80-tonne bollard pull tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd and built by Turkey's TOR Group.
Each tug has an LOA of 32.8 metres, a moulded beam of 12.8 metres, a maximum draught of 5.8 metres, and two Cummins QSK95-M 2,560kW engines that deliver speeds in excess of 14 knots.
The tugs are equipped to fulfil a multitude of missions including but not limited to ship-assist, firefighting, and pollution response. Hence, the vessels are equipped with a FiFi1 class off-ship firefighting system with a Marsis 2,750 cubic metre per hour fire pump, a water spray system, and tankage for recovered oil.
