Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC) recently took delivery of two new harbour tugs in a series of PaxOcean Engineering based in Batam, Indonesia.
The Robert Allan Ltd-designed Mailiao 1505 and Mailiao 1506 each have an LOA of 31.8 metres, a moulded beam of 11.48 metres, a maximum draught of 5.2 metres, and accommodations for a crew of six. Two Niigata 6L28HX engines each rated 1,897 kW at 750 rpm deliver a bollard pull of 50 tonnes and a free running speed of 12 knots.
FPC subsidiary Mailiao Harbor Administration Corporation will operate the tugs out of Mailiao Port. Duties will include berthing/unberthing assistance, harbour security, and external firefighting.
