A new ferry recently arrived in the city of Mombasa in Kenya following a 27-day delivery voyage from Turkey.
Built by Ozata Shipyard in Yalova for Kenya Ferry Services, the 73- by 18-metre Safari has capacity for 1,500 passengers and 64 vehicles. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the vessel will temporarily accommodate no more than 1,000 people on each trip across Mombasa's Likoni Channel.
Safari arrived at Mbaraki Wharf on Saturday, April 25. The ferry and its crew have since been placed under quarantine, after which preparations will be made for the start of operational sailings in the coming weeks.
Safari is the second vessel in a series that also includes Jambo (pictured), which Ozata delivered to Kenya Ferry Services in 2017.
