Hamburg-based Scandlines has signed an agreement with Finland's Norsepower to install a rotor sail propulsion system on the hybrid Ro-Pax ferry Copenhagen.
Preparations for the retrofit will take place in November 2019 with the installation scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.
Copenhagen is set to be retrofitted with one large-sized Norsepower rotor sail unit that is 30 metres in height and five metres in diameter.
The system can help reduce CO2 emissions by as much as five per cent on Copenhagen's Rostock-Gedser route, Scandlines CEO Søren Poulsgaard Jensen said in a company press release.
