German operator Reederei Norden-Frisia has signed a contract with Hamburg shipyard Pella Sietas Werft for the construction of a double-ended hybrid ferry.
Structurally similar to sister ship – the 1,786GT Frisia III built in 2015 at Emden's soon-to-close Cassens-Werft – the hybrid-drive, 74.3-metre vessel will be capable of transporting more than 60 cars and 700 passengers.
Chief Executive Carl Ulfert Stegmann said the ferry will operate between the cities of Constance and Meersburg when it is delivered in May 2020.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
