Philippine ferry operator 2Go Group has begun work to convert two of its Ro-Pax vessels into floating quarantine facilities to aid in the Philippine government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conversion work will be carried out with assistance from the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Department of Health (DOH).
The two ferries will each be capable of accommodating up to 1,500 patients and will begin operating as quarantine facilities by mid-April.
The DOTr said that more vessels from various local operators are expected to begin undergoing similar conversion work in the coming weeks.
