Scottish operator Pentland Ferries has taken delivery of Alfred, a newbuild catamaran vehicle-passenger ferry from Strategic Marine Vietnam.

The vessel was designed by BMT for operation in the rough waters of the Pentland Firth, between Gills Bay on the Scottish mainland and St Margaret's Hope in Orkney. Entry into service is planned for later this year.

Alfred has a length of 85 metres, capacity for 430 passengers and up to 98 vehicles, and four Yanmar 6EY17W engines that deliver a service speed of 16 knots.
