One dead, three injured following explosion on Greek ferry

An explosion on a passenger vessel that was berthed at the Port of Heraklion in Greece has left one crewmember dead and three others with varying degrees of injury.

The incident occurred in the engine room of the Ro-Pax ferry Blue Horizon at around 10:00 local time on Monday, August 24.

All four crewmembers who were injured by the blast were evacuated to the nearby University General Hospital of Heraklion. Tragically, one individual, identified as a 30-year-old male, died while undergoing treatment in the hospital's intensive care unit on Tuesday, August 25.

The three surviving injured crewmembers are still being treated at the hospital, local media confirms.

Blue Horizon had just arrived from Piraeus and had already disembarked all 420 of its passengers when the blast occurred.
