Norsepower has successfully installed its patented rotor sail propulsion system on a hybrid Ro-Pax ferry owned by Hamburg-based Scandlines under an agreement signed by the two companies in August 2019.

The rotor sail installed on Copenhagen has a height of 30 metres and a diameter of five metres. The installation is estimated to reduce emissions by around four to five per cent on average without compromising pre-retrofit speed and voyage times.

Copenhagen will put the new system to use when it resumes sailing on the ferry route between Rostock, Germany, and Gedser, Denmark.
