A new ferry service has begun operating on the Elbe River between the northern German states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.

The 32-kilometre route between the cities of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony and Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein will initially be served by Greenferry I, an LNG-powered Ro-Pax ferry operated by local transport line Elbferry.

The 130-metre vessel has capacity for 600 people, 150 cars, and 28 trucks. It is expected to complete three round trips every day along the 32-kilometre stretch between the two cities.
