Croatian ferry operator Jadrolinija has released the concept design for its next-generation Ro-Pax ferry.
The 96-metre by 18.2-metre ferry will transport 900 passengers and 200 vehicles and reach a speed of 18 knots.
Designed to operate in the outer islands including Lastovo, Vis, Korcula and Hvar, the €25 million (US$30.7 million) vessel will replace the 1970-built Lastovo, which has a capacity of 60 vehicles.
Designed to enable disabled access, the ferry will include an air-conditioned salon and café, restaurant, two bars and a sun deck.
Crew accommodation is provided in single cabins.
The next step is to produce contractual documentation, followed by an international public tender for the construction of a ship that should take about two years.
Remontowa Marine Design and Consulting (RMDC) was originally selected at the international tender for the design of a €50 million ship, but the project was abandoned for a cheaper project.
