BC Ferries' newest Ro-Pax vessel, Island Discovery, officially commenced service on Wednesday, June 10, replacing the recently retired 59-year-old North Island Princess on the Texada Island-Powell River route.

Delivered by Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania to BC Ferries in January 2020 and christened by its new owners in March, Island Discovery is the third unit in a series of hybrid-electric ships designed for future full electric operation.

The 81-metre ferry has capacity for 47 vehicles and up to 392 passengers.
