BC Ferries' newest Ro-Pax vessel, Island Aurora, officially commenced operations out of Vancouver Island on Thursday, June 18.

The vessel is the second in a series of hybrid-electric ships built by Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and designed for future full electric operation. It will replace the 51-year old Quadra Queen II, which will become a relief vessel in the BC Ferries' fleet.

Island Aurora's entry into service comes barely a week after that of sister vessel Island Discovery.
