Netherlands-based operator GVB has christened the newest addition to its fleet of ferries that operate along Amsterdam's North Sea Canal.

NZK Pont 100 is the first in a series of five fully electric Ro-Pax ferries ordered by GVB from Holland Shipyards Group.

The newbuild has a length of 41 metres, a beam of 13.9 metres, and capacity for 400 passengers or 24 vehicles.

Two Corvus Energy 340kWh batteries provide power for the propulsion and all other onboard systems. Charging to full battery capacity can be accomplished in as little as three minutes and even while loading and unloading of passengers and vehicles is ongoing.

GVB said it will take delivery of the remaining four ferries in the series at a rate of one every six months. The final unit will be delivered in 2023.
