German operator TT-Line has taken delivery of the first vessel in a new series of two Ro-Pax ferries that are powered by LNG.

Built by China's Jinling Shipyard, Nils Holgersson measures 230 by 31 metres and can transport 800 passengers and 200 vehicles. Its main area of operations will encompass the southern Baltic Sea.

TT-Line said that, compared to conventionally powered ferries, Nils Holgersson's LNG propulsion ensures particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, and NOx emissions reductions of 93 per cent, 98 per cent, and 82 per cent, respectively.

The ferry will undergo further commissioning work prior to the commencement of operational sailings by the end of April 2022.
