Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 has awarded local shipbuilder Westcon Yards a contract for the installation of electric-hybrid propulsion systems on three double-ended Ro-Pax vessels.

Under the NOK 200 million (US$18.8 million) contract, Westcon will carry out the conversion work on the ferries, which had originally been built to operate solely on LNG.

The conversion programme is expected to commence on August 1 of this year.
