Norwegian operator Fjord Line took delivery of a new high-speed catamaran Ro-Pax ferry from Austal Philippines on Sunday, February 28.

Austal CEO Paddy Gregg said the newbuild, named Fjord FSTR, is the largest aluminium vessel ever constructed in the Philippines, measuring 109 by 30.5 metres and with capacity for 1,200 passengers and 404 vehicles. Sea trials proved that the ferry can reach speeds of up to 40 knots, thanks to an optimised hull form that will minimise wake wash as well as fuel consumption.

Fjord FSTR will be operated by Fjord Line in the Skagerrak Sea between Hirtshals, Denmark, and Kristiansand, Norway.
