Scottish operator Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL) has received four compliant bids for a tender to build two new vessels for Islay and Jura islands in the Hebrides.

Four shipyards were invited to tender for the work in September 2021. These include a shipyard in Romania, one in Poland, and two in Turkey.

CMAL said that each submission will now be rigorously assessed against quality and technical and commercial criteria. The newbuilding contract will be awarded to the winning shipyard at the end of March 2022.
