BC Ferries' fifth Island-class Ro-Pax ferry has left Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and is now en route to British Columbia.

BC Ferries said the trans-Atlantic voyage will take 60 days depending on the weather. The vessel will transit the Panama Canal and will make four refueling stops before finally arriving in Point Hope Maritime in Victoria, BC.

Like its sisters, the yet-unnamed Island-class ferry has hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and capacity for 400 passengers and crew as well as 47 vehicles. It is scheduled to begin operational sailings in 2022.
