Two battery-powered ferries have been delivered to Fjord1 in Norway by Turkey's Tersan Shipyard.

The roll on-roll off passenger and vehicle ferries Eidsfjord and Gloppefjord will operate on the Anda-Lote route at Nordfjord on Norway's west coast.

The Multi Maritime-designed ferries, which each have two 520kWh Siemens batteries and two 500eKW Scania generators for back-up, only need to stop for nine minutes at quayside automatic charging stations.

The zero-emission vessels are equipped with a vacuum docking device to ensure safe docking with no need to run the engines and propellers at slow speeds.

They also have an auto-crossing system that accounts for wind, load and waves for the most efficient crossing, including automatic deceleration.
