Two people were killed as a result of a maritime accident involving a chartered tour boat in the British Caribbean territory of Anguilla on Saturday, March 11.
Local news outlet The Daily Herald said it was around 10:00 local time on Saturday when Calypso 2, a vessel operated by tour company Calypso Charters Anguilla, encountered a "fatal accident" off the territory's West End district. However, the exact nature of the accident was not disclosed.
Local police and firefighting personnel were despatched to the area to render assistance to the four passengers and the two crewmembers. Tragically, one crewmember and one passenger were later pronounced deceased.
The three other passengers and the surviving crewmember were brought to hospital and have since been discharged, Calypso Charters Anguilla said in a statement.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
