Hawaii Superferry lays off workers

Hawaii, USA: Hawaii Superferry will lay off over 200 employees beginning tomorrow (Friday, March 20), following its announcement of the suspension of its passenger-vehicle ferry service between major Hawaiian islands.

According to the Associated Press, Hawaii Superferry said it had 161 full and part time employees and 75 contracted employees.

Hawaii Superferry announced the termination of its operations after the state Supreme Court ruled that it was unlawful for the company to operate concurrently with environmental studies.
