Parts of a warehouse which belong to the cruise ship company Bounty at Benoa Port in Denpasar, Indonesia, caught fire late last week, damaging two storage rooms holding tanks of water and diesel
Benoa Marine Police Chief Adj. Comr. Gusti Ayu Putu Suwinaci said that the fire was extinguished before it spread to a larger room nearby, which housed a ship under construction. No casualties were reported. By the time four fire engines arrived, neighbouring company PT Jaya Kota and port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia had already managed to tame the fire, the Jakarta Post reported.
Bounty owner, I Gde Wiratha, said he could not yet estimate the total loss. Mr Wiratha is also the Chairman of the Bali branch of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. As the cause of the fire is still unknown, he speculated that it could have been caused by an electrical surge or a lit cigarette. He added that it was a lesson learned to provide a special hydrant for such emergencies.
