Wang Tak Engineering and Shipbuilding has launched Jiang Men, a new 40-metre catamaran passenger ferry for the Pearl River Delta market.

The Incat Crowther-designed ferry is the third in a series that started with 2016's Shi Zi Yang 7.

The new vessel is designed with a more robust structure and upgraded performance, including an eight per cent improvement in fuel burn.

Jiang Men can accommodate 199 passengers with 162 economy class passengers seated on the main deck and 37 business class and VIP passengers seated on the upper deck.

The ferry is powered by a pair of MTU 16V2000 M72 main engines, each delivering 1080kW at 2250 rpm. MJP 650 CSU water jets give it a top speed of 31 knots.

The vessel meets China Classification Society's latest rules for sea-going high-speed craft.
