The Busan Port Authority of South Korea has unveiled plans to put the country's first zero-emission domestic ferry into service by 2022.

The catamaran vessel will be built by local shipyard Haemin Heavy Industries. It will have a length of 40 metres, capacity for 100 passengers and five crew, and an average operating speed of 13 knots. Power will be provided by two ABB 1,096kWh battery packs with shore charging and remote monitoring and diagnostics capability.

The ferry will be operated between Busan's North and South ports with each round trip expected to take one hour.
