A second catamaran ferry for Rhode Island Fast Ferry is under construction at Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding in Massachusetts.

The Incat-Crowther-designed fast ferry will carry 320 passengers, which is more than double that of the 2012-delivered Ava Pearl.

Powered by a pair of MTU engines that each produce 1398kW, the vessel will have a loaded service speed of 27 knots.

The main deck cabin seats 142 in forward-facing seats and at window seats. There are also four wheelchair spaces, three toilets, a large bar and shop.

The upper passenger deck is divided into two. The forward zone is enclosed around three sides and seats 61 passengers. The aft portion of the cabin has 74 open-air seats.

The roof deck has capacity for 60 passengers for external viewing in good weather, with 18 seats.
