A new catamaran ferry ordered by Spanish transport operator Fred Olsen Express was launched into the water for the first time on Monday, May 6.

Buganvilla Express has a length of 26 metres, a beam of 9.8 metres, a maximum draught of 1.57 metres, and capacity for 250 passengers on two decks. Two main engines that each produce 1,081 kW at 2,300 rpm will propel the ferry to speeds of up to 40 knots.

Space will also be available for four 4,000-litre fuel tanks and two 400-litre freshwater tanks.

The ferry will be operated between the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote in the Canarys.

Buganvilla Express will remain in the water to undergo the final phase of quality control, inspections, and sea trials prior to the final delivery to the owner in June.
