Athens-based Attica Group, a provider of ferry services for passengers and cargo in the eastern Mediterranean, has awarded Norwegian shipbuilder Brødrene Aa a NOK220 million (US$25.7 million) contract for the construction of three high-speed catamaran vessels in a series.

The vessels will each have a length of 36 metres, capacity for 150 passengers, and a maximum speed of 34 knots. Solar panels will be installed to generate the energy required for all lighting and electrical systems in the accommodation areas.

Construction will soon begin at Brødrene Aa's facilities. The three vessels are scheduled to be in operation in Greek waters by 2022, plying the route between the Saronic islands and mainland Greece.
