Viking Ocean Cruises has exercised the option to build a ninth and 10th ship at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard.

Following construction contracts for a seventh and eighth cruise ship becoming effective, the option was taken.

The new units will be sister ships of the ones already ordered, four of which – Viking Star, Viking Sea, Viking Sky and Viking Sun – have been delivered and operate successfully in the company's fleet.

The remaining six ships will be delivered in 2018, 2019, 2021, two in 2022 and 2023.

The ships have a gross tonnage of 47,800 tonnes and accommodate 930 guests. They will be equipped with the safe return to port system.
