Construction of Viking Line's new passenger ship began September 3 at Chinese shipyard Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co. with a traditional steel cutting ceremony.
The vessel will be launched for operation in early 2021 on the Turku–Åland–Stockholm route. The new vessel was designed with a focus on providing open and unobstructed views of the archipelago via large, panoramic windows.
The new vessel will be larger than Viking Grace, the first LNG-powered large passenger ship in the world, but it is calculated to consume up to 10 per cent less fuel.
Passenger capacity will be 2,800 persons in 922 cabins, served by 200 crew.
She will be 218 metres long with a gross tonnage of 63,000 and cargo capacity of 1,500 lane metres.
