Scotland's Stornoway Port Authority has awarded Northern Ireland-based construction company McLaughlin and Harvey a contract for the construction of a new multi-purpose deep water terminal.

The new terminal will provide modern facilities for a variety of sectors, including the energy and transport industries. The design will also enable the terminal to be adapted for a wide range of future uses.

The main berth will be capable of accommodating windfarm support vessels and large cruiseliners.

Work on the terminal is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. Initial work will include piling activity, rock blasting, and dredging.
