The Port of Southampton's newest cruise terminal was officially opened by Associated British Ports (ABP) in a ceremony on Wednesday, September 15.

The port's Horizon Cruise Terminal was completed at a cost of £55 million (US$76 million). It is the fifth cruise terminal to be opened in Southampton.

ABP said the terminal will also feature the UK's first shore power connection of its kind, enabling cruise ships that are appropriately equipped to charge their batteries while alongside. Horizon's shore power connection is scheduled to be commissioned later this year.

The construction of the new terminal was done in anticipation of the port's cruise passenger numbers doubling to four million per year over the next 30 years.
