A new international cruise port was inaugurated in Puerto Princesa City in the western Philippine island of Palawan on Saturday, March 6.

Mayor Lucilo Bayron said the new port is expected to significantly improve Puerto Princesa's economy, which is heavily dependent on tourism.

The construction of the PHP3.5 billion (US$71.9 million) Puerto Princesa Cruise Port consists of seven phases, four of which have already been completed. Facilities at the port will include a 500-metre wharf and a passenger terminal.
