Naming ceremony for new-look Marella Explorer

Marella Cruises has christened the new-look Marella Explorer at Palma de Majorca.

Fresh from a major makeover at the Navantia yard at Cadiz, the 76,998GT Century-class luxury cruise ship can carry up to 1,924 passengers in 962 cabins.

Built in 1996 and formerly known as Mein Schiff 1, Marella Explorer is the largest ship in Marella's six-ship fleet.

The Indigo bar club and casino at the top of the ship includes a 17-metre bar that hosts cocktail-making classes, club with dance floor, touchscreen DJ deck, slot machines and card tables. 

There are 10 onboard restaurants and 10 bars, 4,500 square metres of retail outlets by Harding Retail, the Champneys Spa at Sea with 12 treatment rooms and two VIP suites, and a giant digital screen in the atrium depicting the  

Marella also noted it has enhanced the customer experience with numerous digital innovations, such as card readers for all purchases, signage and self-service kiosks.
